He was flattered by the award but joked that he was only “their ‘guilty pleasure” and that no one would admit to fancying him “out loud” in 2012.
Despite winning the affection of women up and down the country, the ITV star revealed that fortunately his wife Stephanie wasn’t the jealous type.
Phillip said: “I know that I am a very lucky man to work with all these gorgeous women.
“But my wife isn’t jealous. She knows she’s the only woman for me.”
The comments were made eight years before the star revealed he was gay in a touching Instagram post this February.
“We make a dangerous combination. I adore Holly. We’ve had a terrific time together.”
Phillip explained that it was “tough” when she first started because he had “such a great relationship” with Fern Britton but ultimately Holly was “the obvious choice”.
He remembered a candid chat during his first week on the show with Fern, where the pair sat down “with a bottle of scotch” to bond and learn more about one another.
The star recalled: “[She] said, ‘This is a job where you’ve got to know me very well and I’ve got to know you very well so here we go, I’ll tell you everything.’
“We had a very honest booze-fuelled afternoon where we talked about everything. By the next day there were no secrets and we were best of mates.”
He admitted to being extremely fond of Christine Lampard too, during a stint when she covered for Holly on ‘Dancing On Ice’.
Phillip said: “I like Christine a lot. She is lovely. Very warm and great fun. She is a bang-on terrific presenter and I think she has done brilliantly.”
